Tuning Into Every Pupil’s Needs
When a pupil doesn’t get the support they need during their school years, it can shape their path through education, and limit the opportunities that come after.

In the UK, pupils with special educational needs (SEN) are over three times less likely to meet the expected SATs standard—and nine times less likely to achieve the higher standard.(source)

Teachers work hard to support every student, but with such a wide range of needs in the classroom, lessons often have to be designed for the majority. This can leave many pupils, especially those facing additional challenges, disconnected or struggling to keep up.

This often has nothing to do with their capability or effort—it’s just that the subject isn’t connecting, or the pace doesn’t give them the space they need to succeed.

That’s why we’re creating Wavelength: a personalised learning initiative to help every student learn in a way that works for them, so that early gaps don't become long-term barriers.

How It Works
In collaboration with UK educators, our team is building a diverse pool of engaging, personalised learning sessions tailored to different needs and interests.

From that pool, Wavelength's AI matches each pupil up with the sessions that are most likely to resonate with them, giving them a simple path to learning the curriculum at their own pace.

And in addition to giving students a more effective learning experience, Wavelength is designed to make it easier for teachers to support every pupil without adding to their workload.

Teachers can offer personalised sessions to pupils with different needs, track their progress in real time, and spend less time planning or chasing one-size-fits-all lessons.
Built for Classrooms Under Pressure
Schools are facing growing pressure to meet a wide range of needs with limited resources. For teachers, that often means supporting neurodiverse classrooms while balancing heavy workloads, high expectations, and too little time.

Wavelength is designed to ease that pressure. It helps teachers personalise lessons across a full class, understand how each pupil is progressing, and respond to learning needs early—without extra admin or prep.

It’s not just about better outcomes for pupils. It’s about giving teachers the tools, insight, and breathing room they need to make those outcomes possible.
Wavelength In Action
Let’s take an example from Key Stage 2 Science, where three pupils in year 3 need help with the same learning objective—forces and magnets: comparing how things move on different surfaces. Here’s how Wavelength adapts to meet each student’s unique needs, with learning that meets them where they are:
Liam
Liam is deaf and super curious, with a love for hands-on experiments that show science in action. He benefits from accessible formats like British Sign Language (BSL), and otherwise needs closed captions to follow along.

Wavelength assigns Liam an experiment where he rolls objects down ramps with different surfaces to explore how friction affects movement, with captions enabled to help him follow along with the instructions. He’s also matched with a BSL-presented activity involving bottles of rice and water. By inserting a pencil into each bottle and lifting it, Liam discovers how friction in the rice resists movement, lifting the bottle, while the water allows the pencil to slide out smoothly.
Aisha
Aisha is reflective and autistic with a Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) profile. She prefers low-pressure, structured activities that feel open-ended and avoid creating stress. She also prefers mess-free tasks.

Wavelength matches Aisha with a reflective activity where she watches a sled being dragged on different surfaces and answers open-ended questions like, “What do you think will happen if...?” This approach encourages her to think critically without feeling pressured to participate directly. She’s also given a playful car race activity, where she explores how different surfaces affect speed and movement in a way that feels more like a game than a lesson.
Maya
Maya is creative, hands-on and dyslexic, thriving in practical, visual activities that allow her to experiment and express herself, while dyslexic-friendly text and closed captions help her keep up with her sessions.

Wavelength matches Maya with the ramp experiment where she rolls objects down surfaces like sandpaper and wood, discovering how friction changes their speed. She’s also assigned a creative activity where she makes a collage of materials, then drags an object across each one to explore how they affect movement—combining artistic expression with scientific discovery.
Our Roadmap

Phase 1: Building the Foundation
From our base in London, our small team built Steppit to transform online learning with easy-to-create, no-overwhelm formats that empower students to learn at their own pace.

We soon discovered that a wide range of learners, particularly those with SEND or limited access to tailored support, really connected with Steppit's approach and absolutely loved learning skills on the platform.

This inspired us to develop Wavelength, to help them connect with the subjects they need to know and struggle with most.
Phase 2: Piloting the Experience
To bring our vision to life, we’re starting small: creating pilot content in Key Stage 3 Maths to trial the programme with a group of UK schools, particularly to help pupils with symptoms of ADHD.

By working closely with experts in SEND, we’re testing a range of styles and approaches to create highly personalised learning experiences for every pupil.
Phase 3: Partnering with Educators
We’re currently on the lookout for passionate teachers, specialists, and subject matter experts to join us in creating a diverse pool of high-quality learning sessions. These partnerships are essential to building a rich, inclusive content pool that covers the curriculum and meets a wide range of learner needs.
